Longtime readers of the ramblings might recall a tale or twelve of my heinous encounters with glue guns and decorative paper. What’s more, any one who’s met me walks away with a clear understanding of how one comes by the nickname The AntiCraft. What’s most, emergency room doctors have a hard time not laughing through gags when faced with a client who may or may not have sewn/stapled/nailed two spray-painted thumbs together. All I know is semi-gloss La Fonda Fireberry never was a good color for me.
When I set out to plan a creative and crafty wedding not so many months ago, I assumed the worst splinters burns paint poisining scars of my DIY mishaps were behind me. With enough research (drooling over gorgeous Pinterest inspiration boards) and positive willpower (indulging in a few spirits), I would blossom from a clumsy Destroy-It-Yourself-er to a pleat-folding-while-bedazzling champion.
Turns out that sometimes terrifically foolish things seem like awesome ideas after a few Rum & Cokes. Luckily, I’m not pregnant, didn’t wake up with a tattoo of my face on my face, and to my knowledge I left only two, sloppy comments on Martha Stewart’s wedding website. Let’s hope she gained a hand-knit poncho and a forgiving sense of humor from her days in the Clink Clink Cupcake Camp. All in all, my first go at righting years of handmade wrongs resulted in a headache and a few bizarre takes on custom bouquets.
Pardon the half-eaten bit there on the corner. Crafting makes me hungry. In addition to this maimed masterpiece, I spent a few hours (I think?) imperfect-ing other original creations like the Plastic Bag Bouquet, the Toilet Tissue Bouquet, and my pride and joy the Baby Bouquet. The fiance was not so impressed and insisted that I couldn’t count our son as a do-it-yourself creation since technically he helped. The kid also lacked adhesive, ribbon trim, and about a pound of rhinestones.
So quick to nix my artistic dreams, my saner counterpart suggested I use my time online to find someone who specializes in wilt-less bouquets and not, say, chopping a few fingers off with kiddie scissors. So I shot one, last crude comment to Miss Stewart’s site for good measure, ate another banana, and got down to the business of scouting out businesses.
Then I found AutumnArt on Etsy.
I could tell from her profile summary that this was a match made in Hobby Lobby:
I like creating art, and I like coffee. I especially like creating art while drinking coffee. I like new takes on old ideas. And wise women. Owls are nice, too. And slip-on moccasins. And herb gardens. And vintage aprons. And baby gibberish.
Moccasins and owls and fragmented sentences? I knew immediately this was the perfect vendor to help in the business of bouquets. I also secretly hoped we could become best friends who meet at Starbucks in matching Native American footwear and talk about enticing subjects like Rosemary and Thyme. I digress.
AutumnArt creates stunning bouquets, boutonnieres, hair accessories, and custom-requested creations entirely of fabric flowers. Incorporating different patterns, textures, and floral shapes, brides and the otherwise artsy can buy lovelies specially tailored to personal style. Super Bonus? For less than the average cost of natural bouquets from a local florist, this shop offers the unique perk of holding on to your bouquet as a keepsake. For the sake of keeping!!!
I love that I don’t have to contribute one, craftastrophic hand to the handmade process. More than this I love that I can save a pretty penny, not have to worry about the cost, availability, or fresh-timed delivery of floral bunches, and still walk down the aisle with a funky, one-of-a-kind statement piece.
Consider me sold. AutumnArt will take the glue-gunning-and-pinning reigns as I happily exclaim “No. No, really. Do It YOURself. I insist!”.
Again, you long time readers know that my inability to create pretty things is hardly my only flaw. I’m also helplessly indecisive. Hence the concept of The Very Bloggy Wedding and the enthusiastic way in which I toss my event-planning duties on to you. Most people whine, “I can’t do everything“. Not I. I’m lazy, twiddling my spray-painted thumbs in the corner mumbling, “It’s cool. I can’t do much of anything”.
This week, Very Bloggy Wedding Planners, I’ll need your vote and chic opinion on the direction for our custom, AutumnArt fabric bouquets.
Option #1
MONOCHROMATIC: Modern bouquets in one-tone: Red or Pale Blue.
These bouquets are sleek and simple, unique yet understated.
MIX-N-MATCH: Patterned fabric flowers/bows/details blend multiple colors.
These bouquets are a tad more eclectic and whimsical.
What’ll it be? Sweet & Simple or Funkified Frilly? Cast your vote in the comment section!
To my fabric-sculpting, jibberish-speaking, java-guzzling bestie, let me know if we should sport our sequined moccasins next Tuesday. What’s that? This relationship is strictly professional? Bummed. And to the rest of you, be sure to check out the one-of-a-kind works of awesome from AutumnArt!

WHY do you have to make this SO HARD? I love gardenias, and I am mesmerized by the gardenias in the fourth bouquet. Which means I am going to vote for eclectic and whimsical.
Option 2 I think would go lovely with the bridesmaid dress. The mixture of colours and textures are beautiful. I’m a little worried, though, on how well it will show up in pictures when you may be at a distance from the lens. Pretty pretty pretty
I totally love this idea but I don’t know ones simple, understated znd elegant. Two is fun and funky plus you could mix your colors…. Ok I have to say 2. But if your wedding was a sailor themed wedding the first pic on here would be to die for! I’m kinda still drooling over it!
Funkified Frilly! It goes well with your creative bent, and will scream Tori all the way down the aisle. Original and unique, just like you.
I like the top one of option 2, but not the bottom one. Single colour in light blue would be nice, in red it’d look – I don’t know – too traditional?
And I have GOT to learn not to head to your site directly from my World War 2 discussion boards. I could not for the life of me figure out why you would post about anti-aircraft guns. (And yes, I am VERY overdue for new glasses.)
By the way, I share your … difficulties with crafts. My folks tried to get me into plastic model kits. That worked okay until I was building an aircraft carrier with LITTLE TEENY planes. I got the ship together fine, but in the course of the afternoon, my air squadron dropped from 2 dozen planes to about 5. Well, 5 on the ship, 4 on my right hand, 7 on my left, several in my hair, and a few that are still missing to this day. I work on cars now. It’s harder to glue a radiator to your head. Harder, but not impossible……..
I know I don`t like the pink one cause it looks like it came off pinata. I like the whimsical crazy one at the end. Are you going to be able to wrestle it out of the girl`s clutches that caught it? For something like that, I`d catch and run…FAST
Funkified Frilly!!!! I LOVE IT!!!
Oh and ya, I also gave you the Versatile Blogger award… Don’t hate me. It’s ALLLLLLLLLL Donna’s fault.

Since you are clearly bringin’ on da noise, I say bring on da funk!
I like the last one of option 2. I’m all about whimsy!
This post was hysterical, Tori! I vote #2–the bottom of the two in that category. I love whimsy, as well!
Kathy
Another vote for the last one in option #2
I’m in love with Option 1. Very pretty!!!
Funkified frilly! Love mixing patterns and textures in wedding bouquets! Do it!
What great stuff she has! Mixed patterns – love the one under the boutonniere.
You are too funny for words, woman! I vote for #1 in pale blue.
Oh, I donnnn’t know… I donnnnn’t know…
but… but… HEY… *hic*
lemme… lemme tellll ya’ something…
lemme tellll ya’ something about Marrrrtha Stewarrrt…
*hic*
As a fellow anti-craft, admitting you have a problem is half the battle. I applaud your decision to get help.
I like the monochromatic look in #1 but my craft gene is broken so I have no good reason on which I base this judgment.
The bottom one of option 2 seems perfect.
I think so, too
Option two! Two! love it so much, so pretty! the entire idea is awesome, though – a pre-made keepsake bouquet
Thanks for your vote, lady!
The Mimi says….the bottom one of option 2. Pick your own fabrics / colors, but I love it!
The Mimi, thanks. I will be buying you a name badge that says The Mimi.
I’d go for the Funkified Frilly every time! ps You are one funny lady, Tori Nelson!!
Thanks for your vote! It’s hard to pass up funky AND frilly!
Option 2 seems a favorite, but I have to vote #1. I’m sorry. My heart told me to do it.
~FringeGirl
Listen to your heart. I think that was a song from that Disney movie about Pocahontas
Thanks for your heartfelt vote!
Monochromatic might be simple but also very romantic and elegant. It’s just my 2 cents.
Simple is good! Thanks for voting, Gustavo!
I love option 2 (especially the bottom one.) I’ve never seen anything like this. So pretty!
Aren’t they cool? I’m so excited!
Option 2!!! Funky all the way!! If I were a guest at your wedding, I’d definitely be making off with that bouquet, if you know what I’m saying. Making ‘off’, as in stealing it… not making ‘out’, because snogging fabric flowers is just wrong.
Snogging! Score one for Dana. I will definitely figure out a way to use the word snogging in conversation today
Love these! I vote Funkified Frilly. The very last picture is my favorite.
Yay! Thanks for voting. I’ve decided I’m just going to carry my AutumnArt bouquet around town before the wedding. I will be the sassiest girl in the grocery store and DEFINITELY the funkiest girl in the dentist’s office!
I’m a little late but #2 is my fave
I’m so incredibly late, but I love #2.
(School started, life switched to chaos mode. Thank the gods for fall break!)
